Remembering my Mother

 

It was my birthday some days ago.

My mother on the last years that she was still well, she would always give me this as a birthday cake.

It's made with the yolks of the eggs and I am absolutely crazy for it, so my mother would give me this joy.

Later she became a little sick and even the flowers that she used to give me in my birthdays she then would ask my father to buy me. The first time it was a rose, on the years after could be roses but also other beautiful flowers.

On the last year before they got really worse they got me chocolates, another thing that I like so much.

I remember hearing my mother's voice on the phone saying that I needed to go there, to their home, to take the present. Obviously I went there, I always did it on  my birthdays.

And there it was, the box with a heart on top. I still have it and I always will.

How I miss my mother and my grandmother and my father too.

The only thing that helps is to know that they are well and happy now. Thanks God.

Where is the Autumn?

Nah! Autumn took a break.

That is not right. Here we were so happy with the falling leaves and fresh breeze, making us feel cozy and nice and thinking about the pleasures of Autumn and Winter and... of Christmas time.

But no, he decided that it was not time yet.

I remember years ago when it happened the same. It was my birthday - it's in October - and my mother gave me as a present, among other things, a very nice nightgown all summery, so fresh, pale green with embroidery. It felt so good to have a new nice and fresh nightgown in those hot nights.

Now it's not my birthday yet so I hope that, this year, that day will be cooler.

Two birthdays

Two birthdays in my house this month:

Girl nº2, who is now 16

and mine.

A day in Florence

Enough of bad things. Let's forget the republic day.
I know it's October but I was thinking about our holidays in July and the day my husband was 50. We were in Rome and went to Florence because it was his birthday.

It was such a wonderful day.
After the presents and kisses in the morning, we went to the station and took a fast train, the Frecciarossa to Florence, Firenze, how it's called in Italy.
It's a wow city, each corner of it. I knew it was like that but I didn't know how much wow it was. The girls were crazy with it.

The girls with long hair are my little ones.

After all the walking and our jaws aching because of so much wow, we went to have lunch. He choose the restaurant and very well chosen it was.

Such a pleasant lunch.

He and I had Aspargus Risotto and the girls had spagetti and pizza. Here it's him enjoying his food.

The arm and a blue and white dress is my big girl. I think the other hand is my girl nº2 - or it's maybe mine.

And what about the italian ice cream, like no other in the world?!

Some fruit.

And other food.

We went back to Rome in the very end of the day exausted but so happy. Happily we went in the Frecciarossa again.
Thanks God my husband doesn't tire easily because, arriving home we had the most wonderful dinner.
What a day!

19 !

Now big girl is 19!

6 years old

I'm very sorry to not going to visit blogs as I would like. Between working outside, taking the girls to schools - each one in a different school - taking the big one to the station so she will take the train everyday to university in Lisbon, shopping and homemaking, there's not much time left.

...

Last sunday it was my little girl birthday. She is now 6, praise the Lord.

We invited a lot of friends from her school and they were very happy here, eating, playing and seeing a movie.

She likes so much Kitty from Hello Kitty that I ordered a cake with it on and most friends gave her present related to Kitty.

Even the napkins and paper glasses had her on them.

She was very pleased.

My birthday - part II

Here it is the cake.

I found a way of downloading those pictures I took with my new camera.

My husband made me a dinner, very good, that had leek soup, a kind of beef welington ( with pork) with mashed potatoes and vegetables and ice cream for dessert.

And in the end we still had my cake: a kind of pudding my mother knows I die for.

It was such a good night. The problem with all that so good food was, in the end I was so full.

Never mind, it's everyday that we have our birthday!

My birthday

On the 22 October it was one of my girl's birthday, as I posted before, and on the 24 was mine.

I wanted to post here a picture of the cake and all but I couldn't find a way of transfering the pictues to my computer because I have a new camera!

Yes, my husband gave me as one of the presents. The other one is perfectly good but he wanted to give me one more advanced. The problem is I was so used to the other one that now I don't know, yet, to do some things as putting all the photos in the computer.

Never mind. I will show you the ones taken with the old one.

That's hubby's hand here.

I don't dare to show my face. When I see me in the mirror, I don't dislike it and accept very well the signs of the time but when somebody takes a picture of me it's so depressing. I was looking at some my husband took and I couldn't stop thinking to myself: who is this old woman? And I felt a bit sorry for my husband who married a pretty girl and now have this fat and old thing.

Well, I must say to myself that the image in the mirror is the true one, not the ones in the pictures.

Don't think now that I have a low self estime. I quite like me , with all my good and bed things - in my own opinion, more good than bed. It's just I have a very bad relationship with the camera when it comes to my face. I think I'm never well enough.

Sorry about this, I just needed to talk. Maybe someone who reads my blog can feel the same and understand.

Now, here they are some presents I had, given by my mother: a rose plant, a nightie ( it's so pretty, isn't it?)

My mother knows how I'm crazy for Christmas.

15 !

In my house ther is always someone's birthday.
Now it was the time of girl nº 2. She is 15 years old.

10 years old !

Saturday, 6 of June, it was one of my girl's birthday:10!

I made a cake and it was a lovely day.

Yesterday it was her party somewhere else where there are birthday parties. There she went with her school friends. They had a lot of playing and after that it was the party with sandwiches, drinks and another cake.

Praise the good Lord. It was two wonderful days and she was so happy.

18 !

Today is Smallest Blessings Day at Her Southern Charm.

I hesitated on posting this here because I'm not sure if it is a small blessing, for us is a big one.

Birthdays.

We have this kind of blessings six times a year because we are six.

This time it was my big girl: she turned 18! - on April, 21.

She is becoming a woman of worth and I believe she will be a proper prov. 31 woman.

She is a strong catholic, faithfull to God and His Church.

She is already the salt of earth.

Here is she all happy with the present my husband gave her.

Cakes

The computer man came yesterday night. I'm not sure if it's ok now, but let's see.
Yesterday I didn't go to work because it's carnival. I don't like it. I used to when I was a child because children always like carnival. My grandmother was very good to us and used to dress us for it. I was a fairy, a spanish, a ladybird... So many things. And it was she who made the clothes. I liked to paint my face as a grown up - strictly on this days of carnival.

Well, but now I an adult and I don't like it now. I have to dress one of my girls friday before carnival so they cane have it also at school. Done for this year.
Now it's only to feel good at home. Yesterday and today.
Tomorow is the go back to work with Fasting opening Lent.

Yesterday I decided it was baking day and made cakes. I forgot to take the pictures but because I couldn't post the ones I took for my little girl's birthday - at 31 January !!! - because the computer was not well, I will now.

I made two to put one on top of the other wit some chocolate spread between them.
The problem was I made one - very well - then I put the other in the oven and went to take my big girls who were in church having classes for taking the Sacrament of Confirmation.
When we came back the cake was a tiny bit overdone and my husband didn't realized it, otherwise he would have put the oven off.
So, in the pictures, you will see that one layer is darker then the other.

Then, on top of it, I put some cream and sugary decoration plus the candles.
It was not so nice looking as the ones I buy to their birthdays but this was made by me.

I'm back

I'm back from computorless land. My internet is working! Well, let's hope it will be for some time, not just for this moment.
Anyway, I will present you with all those pictures and happenings I was keeping to show you.



First it was our wedding aniversary. See the beautiful silver frame my husband gave me - and it was not our silver aniversary, we are married "only" for 20 years. It's quite big, even if in the picture it doesn't show.



Then my nephew's birthday. The girls went to his party, a childrens one, even if my oldest girl is 17!

After that it was one my girl's birthday - 14 she is now. Here it is her cake.



Then it was my birthday. See the cake/pudding my mother gave me as a present - among others. It's a kind of merengue buy a soft one with a melted sugar syrup. Oh, I like it so much. It was mostly me who ate it all and it was huge!





This evening my husband made us, for dinner, this which we call cod with cream.



And this was one of my girl's presents to me - chocolats inside!



The weather as been quite nice and cold - for my taste - as you can see here. Yesterday and today morning it rained so much. Now is sunny, which is not bad because I can wash a lot of clothes and put them in the line to dry.



Maybe all this is not very interesting for you , but I was so ansious to tell you about it all that I'm happy to finaly post it here.
